Younger Adults, Women Most Likely to Receive Care for Mental Health, CDC Survey Finds

A total of 21.6% of adults received some form of mental health treatment in 2021, an increase from 19.2% in 2019, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Of all age ranges, younger adults aged 18-44 received the most treatment for mental health, increasing to 23.2% from 18.5% during the same period. Among young adults, the survey also found that women were more likely than men to have received mental health treatment.1

While it’s encouraging that adults are reaching out to mental health professionals for treatment, a stigma surrounding this issue remains: Some are still afraid to speak up or have limited access to mental health professionals in their community.

Employer-sponsored, self-funded health benefit plans administered by Star Marketing and Administration, Inc. offer telehealth for mental health and non-emergency general medical services. Via Teladoc®, covered employees and their dependents who are 18 and older can talk to a therapist or psychicatrist seven days a week. 2
